For this game, Cousins sat out due to a right rib contusion and left knee soreness. Friday morning, Cousins had an MRI for his knee, and the results were negative. With Cousins out, you would expect the Pelicans to play a lot worse, since he scores 20.7 points a game, and is getting 11.7 rebounds per game. These stats are from ever since he joined the Pelicans, 10 games ago. Pelicans Coach Alvin Gentry said Cousins is day-to-day and he will be checked again on Saturday. Hopefully, he will be able to return and help the Pelicans out in the paint.
At the end, New Orleans won even with Cousins out. This is very impressive, as James Harden had an amazing night. He scored 41 points, got 14 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists (triple-double). The reason New Orleans won in my opinion, was because their offense was more balanced and fluid without Cousins. Even though Cousins does a lot on the defensive end, this night Anthony Davis grabbed 15 rebounds, which helped a lot. Solomon Hill impressed many tonight. He scored a career-high 30 points! 14 of those points were in the opening period, where he was 4 from 5 behind the 3-point line. Another reason for New Orleans win is that they shot better than 53%! Eric Gordon, a big contributor to the Rockets only scored 14 points, shooting 30%FGP. It was just not his night. All in all the Pelicans managed to beat the Rockets and get the win.
