Remember when the 2008 Celtics won an NBA championship? Will now it is coming towards the ten year anniversary.
What is Happening?
For the ten year anniversary, former point guard Rajon Rondo wants to set up a vacation with the old Celtics team. With the team except for Ray Allen. Rondo says, “I asked a couple of the guys. I got a no, a no head shake,” said Rondo to The Undefeated when asked why Allen wasn’t invited.
Who was on the team?
In the summer of 07′, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett, all massive stars joined the Celtics. They would be paired up with one of the best point guards to ever play the game, Rajon Rondo. This super team would go on to win a championship in 2008, and then lose in the finals to the Los Angles Lakers in 2010.
On July 10, 2012, Ray Allen shocked the basketball world as he decided to join the Miami Heat for 9.5 million, 3-year contract. He took this deal, instead of 12 million for 2 years with a no trade clause from the Celtics. He got this after seeing a longer deal, as he was not seeing eye to eye with Rondo. Instead, he was going to play with the BIG 3 in the Heat. Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. With them, he would end up winning more championships. Since he took this offer, his former teammates are mad at him. Similar to Kevin Durant moving to the Warriors.
“It will be a long story about that, but it is what it is,” Rondo, who plays for the Chicago Bulls, told The Undefeated. “I don’t know a good analogy to put this in. It just wasn’t the greatest separation. It wasn’t the greatest thing that could’ve happened to us as a team, a bond. We were at war with those guys [Miami]. To go with the enemy, that’s unheard-of in sports. Well, it’s not so unheard of. It’s damn near common now.
